~ Our Story ~
Started as a blog.
Became a movement.
Modern Data 101 started with a simple, and deeply annoying, observation: the data space had too many conferences, too much hype, and not nearly enough honest, practitioner-grade content about actually building things.
So Animesh Kumar, CTO, data architect, and someone who has shipped data platforms for the likes of the NFL, Verizon, and Reliance, decided to write about it. The first few posts went up on Substack. People started sharing them. Then other experts joined in. And before anyone quite noticed, it had turned into a community.
Today, MD101 brings together data engineers, data leaders, product thinkers, and architects from across the globe. We debate. We co-author. We share frameworks that have actually survived contact with reality. We curate the good stuff so you don’t have to wade through the noise.
No fluff. No vendor speak.
Just the real deal on modern data, from people who live it every day.

Academically rigorous where it counts. Proudly opinionated. Occasionally chaotic. Always community-first.

The humans behind
the signal
MD101 is run by a distributed, opinionated, surprisingly funny crew of data professionals. Some of us build data infrastructure by day (you may have heard of DataOS). All of us care deeply about what the community produces.
